"Our greatest natural resource is the minds of our children." Walt Disney
Walt Disney knew the importance of imagination. The importance of developing it and encouraging it. Creativity is a process and takes inspiration. For some kids drawing comes naturally, for others it takes courage. Although the art room at St. Christina has nothin' on the Magic Kingdom, the principles are the same. Your child's imagination will be celebrated and encouraged. It will always be welcome here.
I am honored to be a part of the process and look forward to a fun & creative year!

This year, through various projects and mediums, we will explore the importance of the Elements of Art: line, form, shape, space, color, and texture. We will also cover some of the Principles of Graphic Design: balance, emphasis, pattern and unity.
A few notes:
5th-8th Grade will receive a letter grade on their report card for Art. At the start of each new project a rubric will be communicated to the students. The requirements and expectations will be discussed in class at the beginning of the project as well as throughout the project.
Projects will be graded based on if the student met those requirements.
In general, projects will always be graded using the following categories:
Craftsmanship
Was the project carefully planned, patiently done, completed in order? Is the work neat & clean?
Are original drawing marks covered by color or outlining etc., in final product?
Creativity
Does it show detail and elements unique to that student (not just copied from the example)?
Production & Effort
Does the student use class time wisely? Is effort shown in technique being used: drawing, coloring, etc.?
Is all paper space used in final product? Is the project properly labeled with name/room #?
Work Habits & Attitude
Is the student respectful & positive and do they clean their work area?
Occasionally, students may be assigned a take-home project. If your child is absent on a day a project is due, the new due date for the project will be the day they return to school. Please see the "Take Home Work" tab above for detailed information.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions!
Also remember to check Artsonia from time to time -
You'll see the beautiful work by your kids + many gift giving ideas!!!
